Jubilee Street, Langworthy Nearing Completion

We are delighted to announce that our scheme with Great Places on Jubilee Street in Langworthy, providing 32no. new 3 and 4 bedroom homes, is nearing completion.

Southdale Construction have already handed over the first 9 houses and residents have recently moved in.   The remaining 23 houses are scheduled for phased completion over the course of October.

Seen from above (photo taken from scaffolding recently erected around the adjacent Emmanuel Development which we are also involved with), the development adds another distinctive roofscape to the local area, with Chimney Pot Park in the foreground, the Emmanuel Centre and the traditional terraced properties beyond

The street design is a modern interpretation of the traditional terraced, back of pavement housing, which is typical of the area.  We have incorporated secured 'drive under' parking within the streetscape in line with SBD requirements, and which will help to alleviate on street parking.

Back to School

Following on from George’s recent foray into the classroom at Cheadle Heath Primary School, Mark is now the latest of the TADW staff to go back to school to (hopefully) inspire the next generation of building designers.

In conjunction with our client – Weaver Vale Housing Trust – we ran a competition at Willow Park School in Winsford.  Mark spent a morning in the classroom talking to the children about houses now and in Victorian times (designed to fit in with their current school project).  He then left them alone to design their own ideal home going back later to judge the work and present some prizes.Judging was a difficult task because the designs the children produced were incredibly creative. Gill Fozard and Kenton Barker from WVHT helped make the final decision, as did Jeanette Bate from Profile Communication.  The lucky winners – Cadey Lea and Joel - received Lego construction packs and we presented the school library with a couple of books on architecture for all the children to enjoy.

Many thanks are due to Gill at WVHT for helping to organise the whole event and Jan at the school for letting us talk to her young charges.  Thanks also to the children for taking                                                                             part and for giving us lots of new ideas for our                                                                               next housing project – though I’m not sure what                                                                             the HQI standards are for party rooms and                                                                                   Jacuzzis...

TADW get SILVER!

We have recently completed our Investors in People Silver Assessment which was held over a 2 day period and are pleased to report we made the grade!

This was our third IiP review and for those of you who are not familiar with the process, it’s a fairly intensive couple of days with all members of staff involved with an external Assessor, who in this instance, was idg of North England.  The Assessor looked at all aspects of our business, sat in at our monthly Office Meeting and also undertook one to one interviews with all staff.

We have just received the Assessment Report and would like to share this from the Executive Summary:-

“This was a particularly impressive Investors in People review where all people working for TADW Architects feel that it’s a great place to work.  Recent initiatives including a health and wellbeing policy and evaluating management and leadership capabilities have further developed the organisation.  It is recommended that the organisation looks towards having a Gold top up to give recognition to additional areas that are being met”.

As a business, we have certainly benefitted from IiP over the last 8 years.  It has given us an opportunity to stand back and look at the way we work and also look at improvement opportunities for the future with an outside expert.

We are delighted that we have achieved silver standard and look forward to a top up assessment in the near future.

The scheme at Market Street in Denton will provide 6 two bed-three person flats and 3 two bed-four person houses.

All three schemes will provide much needed affordable housing to meet demands of the local area.
