Following on from George’s recent foray into the classroom at Cheadle Heath Primary School, Mark is now the latest of the TADW staff to go back to school to (hopefully) inspire the next generation of building designers.
In conjunction with our client – Weaver Vale Housing Trust – we ran a competition at Willow Park School in Winsford. Mark spent a morning in the classroom talking to the children about houses now and in Victorian times (designed to fit in with their current school project). He then left them alone to design their own ideal home going back later to judge the work and present some prizes.Judging was a difficult task because the designs the children produced were incredibly creative. Gill Fozard and Kenton Barker from WVHT helped make the final decision, as did Jeanette Bate from Profile Communication. The lucky winners – Cadey Lea and Joel - received Lego construction packs and we presented the school library with a couple of books on architecture for all the children to enjoy.
Many thanks are due to Gill at WVHT for helping to organise the whole event and Jan at the school for letting us talk to her young charges. Thanks also to the children for taking part and for giving us lots of new ideas for our next housing project – though I’m not sure what the HQI standards are for party rooms and Jacuzzis...
